Parenting Tips & Articles, Suggested Reading, and other Resources for the Single Parent
Miscellaneous Parenting Tip
The best treatment for coughs and colds may still be the old-fashioned remedies: lots of fluids (water, tea, chicken soup),
lots of rest and a humidifier for a child with a nagging, tickly cough. Having a child recuperate at home for a few days may
not be the most convenient arrangement for a working parent, but dosing children with OTC medications and hurrying them
back to school or day care will not make a virus go away any sooner. Lack of sufficient rest may actually weaken a child's
immune system and permit a secondary bacterial infection to take hold, necessitating even more recuperative time.

Great Books on Parenting and Single Parenting
|
We strongly recommend Jim Fay's Love and Logic techniques. The "Parenting
with Love and Logic" series help parents and children establish a rewarding
relationship built on love and trust. And it will help parents give their
children a priceless gift--the opportunity for a joyful, productive, and
responsible adult life. These books were written to help parents raise
kids who are self-confident, motivated, and ready for the world by teaching
them responsibility and the logic of life by giving them the opportunity
to solve their own problems from the earliest possible age. |
